I am interested in the many applications of Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). My groups uses porphyrin based sensitizers (molecule rotating above) and we are examining its effectiveness on bacteria and microorganisms. The process involves the use of a laser light source and porphyrins to generate cytotoxic species.  I have had several undergraduate students present their research on this at American Chemical Society Meetings (See Curriculum Vitae tab).
