What it takes to be Sharman

How Sharman got to be where she is today

Growing up, Sharman dreamed of being a lawyer because that's what her father was. When she was quite young, however, she decided that she was interested in broadcasting. She landed her first job on a FM radio station. She was on during the "prime time" hours of 4:00-6:00 in the morning. Time went on and she wobbled back and forth from AM to FM radio. Eventually, she got a big break and got a chance to do what her heart really desired, broadcasting journalism in television.

Sharman landed her first job working as a writer for a NBC affiliate in Boston called WHDH Television. Although she didn't get into television immediately and had to do some freelance writings for radio for a while, she did get excited when she landed her WHDH Television project. She has now been working for Elmira's NBC affiliate WETM as an anchorwoman working with Carl Proper since November of 1995.

Sharman does individual projects as well as being an anchor. She has a great love for going out and exploring other people's lives and creating stories about them. She thinks that it is important to get on everyone's level. She shared a few of her personal tips with us that she thought were meaningful. She told us that it is important not to convey any certain look while interviewing someone, but to show interest. Be objective and concerned about the information they are sharing with you and make sure you show compassionate feelings to the stories that deserve it. Sharman's final tip was to follow your dream, and we can't argue with that.
