Fighter pilots and nurses

Sheppard Air Force Base was also a training site for fighter pilots.

"Most nurses ended up paired off with some instructor pilot. We had a ball. We used to go out to the officers club and dance every night. "

Since MaryLynn was on active duty she was allowed to fly with the pilots on the weekends. One weekend a month they would choose another base and fly there. Friday nights they would pick a close base and fly there for the night, and Saturday choose a base that was further away. " So if there was a party going on at the River Walk in San Antonio that was where we headed Saturday night." Most of the crews were guys so often it was just MaryLynn and 14 pilots. " I felt guilty, because...it shouldn't be this much fun."

As a result of her weekend trips MaryLynn has traveled to a majority of the Air Force bases in the United States.

Her friend Roger, a pilot, asked her before she left where she would like to go for her last cross country trip. She said that she would like to have dinner with her parents, in Buffalo. Keep in mind that they were in Mississippi. They formed a crew of 14 pilots, most of whom had never seen Niagara Falls, and made the trip. They were back at work the following morning.
