Class Decriptions

Beginning Glassblowing: An introduction and basic foundation for working with hot glass. Learn from repetitive practice to shape solid pieces and blow simple vessels. Basic color application also introduced. No experience needed.

Flame & Furnace: This class will be a crossover between furnace and flameworked glass. Imagery made using sculptural and murrine techniques on the lampwork torch will be combined with pieces at the furnace to create new dimensions. Previous glassblowing and lampwork experience applicable.

Advanced Beginner: Increase confidence and skill level to go beyond the basics through daily practice and teamwork. Introducing a progression of blown forms and color application. Basic skill required.

Engraving Plus: Use the engraving lathe to explore a range of techniques employing copper whell, stone and diamond. Sandblasting and other decorative techniques also included. Class will accomodate students at all levels.

Sandcasting: Sandcasting is a direct way to work sculpturally with glass. An intensive survey of techniques through demonstration and application. No experience necessary, but must bring an enthusiastic spirit!

Weekend Workshop Descriptions

Beadmakng: Catch the Fever!: This one-day workshop will introduce forming glass beads with the lampwork torch. Explore many decorative possibilities. This can be contagious! No experience necessary. Students who repeat this class will learn more complex designs.

Murrine Weekend: This two-day workshop will explore murrine making at the furnace. A variety of murrine techniques will be introduced including use of the glory hole to fuse & shape simple forms. Basic skills helpful but not required.

Registration

Registration fee of $10 plus deposit of one-half class fee is required to register; payment in full due 2 weeks before class begins. Cancellation is required 4 weeks prior to start of class ($50 plus $10 registration fee is non-refundable). Make checks payable to Hands-On Glass.
