What Do We Mean by Social "-Isms"?




The term "social '-isms'" is used to group common societal problems based in stereotypes and the attitude of prejudice.
Social "-isms" cause the outward expressions of prejudice and discrimination, focused on a specific group of people.


 

Social "-isms" describe a largely felt form of prejudice towards a certain group, be it based in fact, myth, or ignorance. Some widely publicized and discussed social "-isms" include racism, sexism, and ageism. However, there many other social "-isms" that plague our society and interfere with the everyday lives of many people.
