My Every Day Life My Family Maine<3 High School & College My Experiences In Sports
My Everyday Life
Hi my name is Courtney Davis. I am originally from South Portland, Maine. I was born in the city of Portland on March 19, 1987. I am nineteen years old and part of a very loving family. I have always seen myself as a very determined person and a very strong willed individual. I have always been taught to be very independent and to strive for what I want in life. I would give my mother, Sharon Davis and my father, Howard Davis all of the credit for getting me where I am today. I am currently attending Elmira College, so most of my day consists of spending time with my friends and studying to become a nurse. I am usually in the library most of the time during the week, it is quiet and allows me to concentrate on my studies. When I am not studying I spend time with my friends, family and enjoy exercising and, outdoor activities.
My Family
When I am not at college I live at home in Maine with my Mother, Father, Brother and two dogs. My Brother is currently a student at South Portland High School and will be a senior next year. He is involved in many sports within the high school, but excels at baseball. He is considering the option of entering the Military which would be very scary for my family and I, but very beneficial for my Brother. My mother and father raised us both, but we are completely different people, other than our stubbornness. My Mother is a very independent women who works very hard for what she has and never settles for less. She currently works for a medical office called Orthopedic Associates and has for many years. She is also a very active person, she enjoys running in competitive races in which she has completed over ten. My Father is a very loving man who always strives for the best for himself and our family. He has worked very hard over the past six years in developing and opening up his own fencing business called Horizon Fence. He was also involved in the Army, and that is also a reason my brother is interested.
Maine<3
I love that I am from Maine and I am very proud of my state, and wish to continue my life after college in the state of Maine. Maine is a beautiful place to live, and will always be where I call home. The weather in Elmira is very similar to parts of Maine. I am from a small suburb called South Portland, which is located bellow the city of Portland. South Portland lays on the coast of Maine where there are many beaches to choose from and many outdoor activities to be involved in. While in Maine I enjoy many things such as hiking and camping."All I know is that history repeats itself and people
are going to want to experience the world. But I know then they are
going
to have a better appreciation for what is here in Maine."
-John Baldacci (Governor of Maine)
High School & College
I attended South Portland High School, where I graduated with honors in 2005. I graduated in a class of 220+ kids. Many would consider this a very small class, but I enjoyed it because we knew everyone. I have a special place in my heart for the memories and people that I spent those four years of my life with. I met people at South Portland High School that I will always be friends with and keep close to me. I am currently attending Elmira College, trying to receive my Nursing Degree within the next four years. I am very proud and pleased with my decision of Elmira College and plan to continue my education here. There are a few reason as to why I chose Elmira and why I have chosen to pursue Nursing. Elmira College has a beautiful campus and has a lot of the same scenery that Maine has. Elmira college is a very prestigious college that excelled in allowing their students to continue in their future lives with the most skill possible. Nursing has been a part of my family for a long time. My Grandmother is an RN and she has always praised the job and having the opportunity that nurses do in life. Having the opportunity to get a degree that can take us anywhere and also being able to help people in need was a big factor.
My Experiences In Sports and Outdoor Activities
I have always been very active my whole life. I have been involved in many outdoor activities and many team sports. Throughout the years I have been involved in sports such as softball, track, swimming, field hockey and tennis. Although I may have not continued all of these sports throughout the years, I enjoyed every minute of them.
I was involved in softball during my elementary years of school. My Mother was actually the coach of our team, which was a lot of fun and help during that age. She kept me in the sport all the way until my freshman year of high school. My most memorable part of softball would have been my eighth grade year when I got the "most improved" award, I was extremely excited because I was not the best player on the field. Regardless softball was an extremely happy time for me and I still enjoy going outside and playing pass with my family.
Track was a short lived career for myself. I was never the best running but enjoyed spending time with my friends, who were all involved in track and field. I would have to say I was better at long distance runs more than short sprints. My most memorable time during track would have been when I was running with one of my good friends Beth. She was always more athletic than myself, we ran the one mile race together and I kept up with her the whole race only finishing a few seconds behind.
I was involved with swimming for about four years competitively, but obviously many years for just pure pleasure. I found the most success while swimming free style and in relays. One of my most memorable times in swimming has to be the time of one of my first races. My coach had to decide to either put me in the back stroke race or the relay race. After contemplating and talking to other coaches we came up with the plan to do the individual back stroke race. I finished the race second in my heat, which was a big accomplishment for me.
Field Hockey will always have a special place in my heart. My high school years were hugely dedicated to field hockey and the team and family we became. Field Hockey is a very competitive and physical game that you get very involved with while playing. As a team you must be a tight crew and know how each other plays, you must also know each others strengths and weaknesses. I was involved in field hockey for three years of my high school career and I regret today not continuing it. I have many special memories about field hockey and the team that I was involved with. I met all of my best friends from Maine while playing field hockey. We have spent so many good years and times laughing together about field hockey and the things that we have done since.
I would have to say that Tennis is the most relaxing sport of many that I have played. I enjoy going to the courts with my mother and hitting around. I played tennis for three years in high school, and plan on continuing to play during my sophomore year at Elmira.
