Cynthia Wood worked as a Certified nurse of Gerontology at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center for 5 years. However it became increasingly difficult to juggle the six month day/night rotation and see the patients leave, after having spent so much time with them. Fortunately, her husband and mother were and continue to be a source of constant encouragement."Since mom was a nurse, she knew what I was going through and my husband's encouragement was special because he was the one who had to put up with me coming home and crying."Mrs. Wood then decided to drive a bus for the Horseheads School District. During her tenure there, she explicitly enjoyed working with the children.
"I love the kids. I enjoyed driving a schoolbus because the younger kids sort of look up to you, you know? Adults more or less just get on and ride, but you actually mean something to the kids."After three years had come and gone, she opted for a different job and began working for Corning Glassworks as a shuttle bus driver-- only to transfer to Chemung County Transit. She has worked for the Chemung County Transit since then and has recently become a fulltime member.
