Combing The Kitchens For a Woman...

Here's a test for you. Name your favorite chef from The Food Channel. Okay, you got it? Chances are that chef was someone like Emeril Lagasse, Bobby Flay, or Masaharu Morimoto from The Iron Chef. The world of professional cooking even today, is still predominanly male, though that trend seems to be slowly changing. Our challenge was to find a local female executive chef who was willing to sit down and talk about her experiences with us. Needless to say, it took more than one phone call to find her. About five or six calls later, we were hot on the trail of Jill Mundry of the London Underground in Corning, NY. A few days later, we were on our way to Corning to speak with Jill. The woman with whom we had spoken on the phone was to the point, willing to help, and professional. She sounded fresh and full of energy, but we were still not sure what to expect. It was a surprise when we were introduced to the petite, young, humorous woman who was Jill Mundry. Then we sat down at a table to ask her questions and to discover what it took to be a professional and a woman in the kitchen of a top restaurant.
