Gabrielle Buel's most recent job was writing articles for the local newspaper. Here, she covered just about every story under the sun from people to events to the closing of businesses. For the most part, Gabrielle came up with her own articles, with the exception of meetings that she was asked to cover. Ms. Buel loved working for the paper; however, the business has recently closed. She is currently looking into jobs at other area papers. She is very open to different kinds of journalism such as magazines and papers. A paper in New York City is interested in seeing some of her work. As you can imagine, Ms. Buel is very excited about this possibility. Gabrielle sees the role of a journalist as a "definite vocation" and as such, she feels that she has faced the business pressures in that there were three owners of the paper. Although many ideas and suggestions were presented to these three, they were not successful at keeping the paper open. Along with superb writing skills, Gabrielle brings great photos and interesting stories to the world of journalism. She looks to other papers and her own "gut feeling" for ethical guidance. In her writing, she feels that it is important to maintain a fair and objective tone. According to Ms. Buel, one of the great things about writing, and there are many, is that "it can be done anytime, even at 2 a.m. if necessary". Ms. Buel has an impressive list of previous work experience. This includes ambulance dispatcher, police officer, EMT, and photographer. |
