When asked whether there were any interesting stories behind any of her paintings, Mavin replied that her "Balancing Act," which was the cover of a novel by Ellen Tifft, was probably a good one to discuss. She stated that this painting reproduces very well, and that it is one of her most illustrational pieces. Mavin also chose this painting because she believes that it strongly reflects her philosophies. She has studied astrology for many years and this work reflects her interest in the phases of the moon. Nature was also a major focus of this work, which is why Mavin has the woman in the sky over a mountain view. She has stated that the mountains of her area are very "inspiring," and that natural settings and objects have a tendency to sneak into her work.
