Sports have played a central role in my life for as long as I can remember. My family has always enjoyed being outside and being active, so I was exposed to many different activities growing up. I began taking ballet lessons at age 5, and soon after, I joined tee-ball, youth basketball, and a junior bowling league. From then on, I was hooked. I continued to play Little League and eventually varsity softball for my school as a pitcher/third baseman. I began playing on a basketball team in third grade, and I continued playing as a guard until graduating from high school. I joined the junior high volleyball team in 8th grade and a travel Junior Olympic volleyball team as a junior. I played the middle-blocker position. In my junior year I joined the track team as well, and I competed in the triple jump, long jump, 100m dash, and 200m dash events.
I continued my involvement with sports once I came to Elmira College. I played varsity volleyball in my freshman and sophomore years and JV softball my junior year. I also enjoy running and playing racquetball with my friends. The following picture is of the 2004 EC Volleyball Team (I am #7).
I have received several awards for my athletic accomplishments. Most notably, I won the triple jump and long jump events at our league track meet and medaled in both events at Districts in my first season. In my senior year, I finished 8th in the triple jump at the PA state track and field championships after competing for only 2 seasons. I also hold the record for the second longest triple jump, 35'3", at my high school. I was captain of the varsity volleyball, basketball, and track teams my senior year, and I was named a Northern Tier League all-star in basketball and volleyball, a District IV all-star for volleyball, MVP for volleyball, and was the female athlete of the year at my high school in 2003. In my sophomore year at EC, I was named the Scholar Athlete of the Year.
