About Lexi....
Sports have never been just a game to me, they are more like a way of life. A beginner at a very early age, I was introduced into sports by my family. Each member of my family is actively involved in sports, covering every sport there is. Since I was a little girl I have participated in soccer, basketball, figure skating and volleyball. I would be lost without the existence of sports in my life. Sports are so much more than just exercise, and a way to compete against others. There a way to make friendships, a family away from home, help build a new attitude, and they can help release stress. It’s a whole other world that allows me to escape reality and strive for a certain goal. It's not all about winning but working your hardest for a team goal. Playing sports have even taught me things, I have learned more about my personality and have grown from it. Even now, not playing sports, hearing another's story, seeing a game, hearing a song...etc all inspire me to pick up a ball. It's the feeling that you feel when your sweating all over, your heatbeat is racing so fast it's going to burst, the complete and utter exhaustion that makes you think you can't go on any farther; but it all does not stop you. It's this power to keep going even when you feel you can't which motivates me to play the game.
Journey through Basketball
Fourth grade was the start of what would become a long journey in the game of basketball. I would soon learn that giving up figure skating to play a more physical competitive game would soon be a new challenge. Playing three years in Biddy basketball, durng elementary school, would teach me the basic fundamentals of basketball. Entering Junior High School I would play Modify Basketball for two years, also playing a AAU Traveling team in the spring. Playing the AAU team taught me that if I was serious about this sport I would have to come together with other girls that would give their heart and soul to the game also, to reach my full potential. In high School, I played one year of JV and three years of Varsity. I also played on different AAU teams every year, traveling all other to play against the best competition. Before my senior year I was nominated to represent NY in a National Tourney in Hawaii, this would end up being one of the most spectacular moments of my life. Seeing another state, many cultures, meeting girls from around the U.S., and being watched by recuriters would name just a few of the particulars of this great event. After this highlight in my life, the next step would be to chose which college to go and play for. Playing varsity ball here at Elmira College would be the end to me athletic career for basketball. Although I still play street ball it's not the same as being on a real team. I have learned so much from participating in sports and do not regret one thing. Chosing to focus on my career rather than sports was probably the hardest choice of my life, however, I will always remember the irreplacable memories that I have gained.
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender.
