John Savash,Assistant Professor of Accounting

Welcome

I started my accounting career in 1987 after graduating with a B.S. in Accounting from Canisius College. I worked for BDO Seidman for three years as both a Staff Accountant and Senior Accountant and during that time became a Certified Public Accountant. I have always had an interest in teaching and in 1990 I had the opportunity to become a Teaching Assistant while attending the MBA Program at Ohio University. I graduated with my MBA in 1991 and in 1992 accepted my first full-time college teaching job at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio as an Accounting Instructor and spent the maximum amount of time (three years) teaching a variety of accounting courses.

I entered the world of government accounting and finance in 1996 and took a job as Treasurer for the Village of Depew, New York. I really missed teaching and was hired by Elmira College in 1999.

The decision to come to Elmira College was one of the best career decisions I have made. Entering my eleventh year at Elmira College, I really enjoy teaching upper-level courses in accounting, such as Principles of Government and Non-Profit Accounting, as well as introductory courses such as Personal Finance. I also enjoy advising students and for seven years I have been the advisor for the Elmira College Chapter of the Sigma Beta Delta National Business Honor Society.
