Biography

"If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, we aren't really living. "
~ Gail Sheehly

Hi Hi my name is Alexandra McPhail, I’m a junior psychology major and sociology minor at Elmira College. I was born on the east coast of Canada however was raised on the west coast as well. Twenty years ago, I was born in Mississauga, Ontario and was raised for the first 7 years of my life. After enjoying the cold winters sledding and shoveling snow while i still enjoyed it, my Dad's sent us across the country. My family and I then moved out west to my Mother’s side of the family where we lived in Richmond, British Columbia just outside Vancouver. Even at the age of 7 i quickly learned that Richmond was alot different then Mississauga. My parents decided to take on a project when moving to Richmond. They bought a house two blocks away from my grandparents ensuring for babysitting whenever was nessecsary evem if they didn't want too. This house was also in the perfect location just down the street from the school and more importantly the playground. For this house to be liveable for a family of five however work had o be done. After knocking down a couple walls, putting in all new flooring and painting every single wall. plus some other small projects the house was fit for our busy family. The most important part of this house was it's carport, that wasn't used to keep cars like most families would do, but was used as a hockey rink for the girls. In this carport my dad and "his girls" spent many hours shooting on a little plastic net and puting holes in the wall, until my grandpa installed plexi glass. It was in this carport that my family and i began are long and heavy involvment in hockey.

After another 7 years, my dad's job took us back across the country were we moved back to Ontario, this time to Oakville which i now call home. This big move wasn't as easy as the first now that we were older and had stronger ties with our friends. We had to leave alot of familiar things behind in Richmond, that would be completely different in Oakville. We took the move a litle different this time, moving into and already developed house that was made suitale for the time being by adding some personal paint colours to the walls. This hosue was a working project and is constantly being changed to suite my family however this time we are doing it little bits at a time rather then in a couple months of a complete make over. Moving back to Ontario also allowed my family to be closer to my second home, our summer cottage. This being located just an hour a half away now, allowed for the family to use it as a getaway anytime in summer when are schedules permitted. My twin sister and i started highschool in Oakvilles as freshmen while my older sister had the harder task of being an even newer kid in grade ten. However after some time we all found new friends and found are places within the school and in other activities. We all continued to be involved in hockey in and outsides of school. My family and I live very active lives between various sports and other activities that keep us busy and involved. Though my twin sister Jennifer grew out of hockey, my oldest sister Frances and i were able to grow as hockey players in Ontario. Hockey in Ontario allowed for opportunities with the proper work ethic and involvment. This opportunities allowed us to expand our hockey careers and grant us an education as well.

I now find myself in Elmira, New York half way done my education heading into my Junior year. Most of my life at Elmira college revolves around my hockey life, because during season it take ups most of my time. If i'm not in class with any of the girls on the team, we are hanging out on our floor where we all live and if none of those are an option we are training or on the ice. I am always around the girls on the team and wouldn;t have it any other way. IElmira is only about four hours from my house in Oakville, though many think that it is alot farther because Ontario is in a completely different country. I am far enough but close enough for my family to attend my games regularly so i don't get to home sick. My older sister is also at Niagara University which is only three hours away from campus. Elmira College has allowed me to take part in a experience differing from many of my friends at home, but wouldn' have it any other way. Elmira is a very active campus and i rarey find myself looking for something to do, especially during season. If school work isn't being done, i am doing something related to hockey! Graduating is the next point to be checked of my list, don't ask me what i want to do after yet, cause i don't know!
