A TOWN LIKE KANSAS

OH! HOW I LOVE JESUS

Choreography and text by Randee Paufve. Music by Joseph Spence. A wryly amusing piece that portrays an unwelcome rite of passage for the girl-child. Fainting spells, chaos and innuendo disrupt the Easter Sunday sermon at the little white church on the village green. This dance includes a large wooden chair which serves as a prop for the dancer.

FIELD OF BROOMS

Choreography and text by Randee Paufve. Music by Maybell Carter and Iris DeMent. FIELD OF BROOMS creates a portrait of a 1950's small town housewife and her obsession with cleaning. It is a depressing place, her life. But her field of brooms is brilliant. Cleaning makes her feel good. She dances, and sings and gives coupons away. In her field of brooms she is free. This piece includes a set of 15 brooms, each inverted in a container of dirt and scattered throughout space.

LETTER FOR HER SEASON

Choreography and text by Randee Paufve. LETTER FOR HER SEASON celebrates the life of a seemingly ordinary woman. Incorporating a 35 ft hemp rope which hangs from the ceiling, this piece is a tribute to the dancer's Swedish grandmother and her thirteen (or so) sisters. The dancer uses the rope to embody different characters as well as to perform aerial work. Narrated by the performer the dance itself is a living, breathing letter for and about Hildur.

FROM THE WASTELAND

Choreography by Gail Chodera. Working with stories and myths from Anne Cameron's DAUGHTERS OF COPPER WOMAN, this dance explores themes of transformation. FROM THE WASTELAND describes a journey of the soul; through dance and abstracted ritualistic movement the dancer creates images of flying, submerging, struggle and emerging. Music for this piece was composed by Kevin Mummy, a powerful score of instrumental music comprised of accoustic guitar, percussion, alto saxaphone, and chinese flutes.
