"The difference between the old player and the new player is the jersey. The old player cared about the name on the front. The new player cares about the name on the back."

Me and Sport Go Hand In Hand
I currently play three varsity sports which are a major part of my life and who I am. I am the starting goalie for the Varsity Field hockey team, a goalie for the varsity hockey team, and the starting goalie for the women’s lacrosse team. This page is an in depth look at how I got involved with each of these sports and where I am with these sports today.
Field Hockey
I started playing field hockey my junior year in high school when I started at Millbrook School in Millbrook NY. I went to Millbrook on a full scholarship for hockey, but one of the school requirements is that you play a sport for each term of classes. As a result I was contacted by the field hockey coach at the time who asked me if I was willing to be a goalie for their team. At this point in my life, I had never even heard of field hockey so I said yes but was very nervous as to what I had just signed myself up for. However, it seemed like I was a natural at it because by the end of tryouts they were confident in my ability and played me in our first game to see how I would do. This is one of my most memorable moments at Millbrook because at the end of the game the ref who was refereeing our game came up to me afterwards and asked me how long I had been playing for. His jaw dropped when I told him it was my first game ever, he would not believe me. He thought I had been playing for my entire life. From that game on I was the starting goalie over the goalie that had been there for the past three years. I had two great seasons at Millbrook and carried the team to the quarterfinals each year and even earned the tournament MVP my final year at Millbrook. Field hockey in actuality is what got me into college because while at Millbrook I was scouted by several colleges and ended up accepting Elmira based on the efforts of the current field hockey coach. Since then I was named 4th best goaltender in all Division one and three schools in the nation my sophomore year. In addition my junior year I was named the best goaltender in all division I and III schools in the nation and received an NCAA award for having the highest number of saves per game in the nation.
Hockey
I started playing hockey when I was nine years old and started in a girl’s learn to play league. I had actually tried to play when I six years old when my dad asked my brother if he wanted to play hockey and he said no. I was immediately like I’LL PLAY but my parents said no that hockey was not for girls. Afterwards each year I tried to convince my parents to allow me to play hockey but they continued to say no and thought that I was just going through a phase that I would eventually grow out of. However, when I turned nine and was still asking if I could play, they finally consented and I began my hockey career. I began as a defensemen (which I was not very good at) on a girls team and everyone on the team took turns being the goalie because we did not have a regular goalie. When it was my turn in net I loved it and wanted to play it for the rest of the games. The next year of hockey I played for a house league team and was the regular goalie on the team (much to my father’s dismay because he had to buy me all new goalie equipment). From there I was asked to join a rep team and played novice A, and made the A team every year I tried out as I moved up in the age categories. Then when I was sixteen and was the only girl at an elite boy’s goalie school I was approached by a scout and asked to go to show case in Montreal where prep-school scouts from all over the USA would be there to watch. So I went and ended up being asked to go to several different schools and after visiting Millbrook I fell in love with the school and went there on a full scholarship. From there, I tried out for the varsity hockey team here at Elmira after being accepted here for field hockey, and made the team as the third goalie.
Like field hockey I started playing lacrosse my junior year in high school when I started attending Millbrook. I originally tried to start playing lacrosse as an offensive player but when I suggested to my coach she thought I would be great for them in net having goaltending experience in two other sports. Of course she was right, as usual, and I became the starting goalie by the end of my junior year. Once here at Elmira I was unsure on whether or not I wanted to continue to play lacrosse because it seemed like too much of a work load with my other two sports along with being a biology major. However, the head coach at the time talked me into it and I am now the starting goalie for the women’s lacrosse team as well here at Elmira.
