Burkards Work Hard...

Hiking...

The first Activity I participated in was hiking at Watkins Glen. We were planning on walking through the gorge, however it was closed due to ice on the paths from winter. Instead, we walked round the gorge. We hiked for about seven miles. At one point during the hike, my professor, who was leading the hike, asked the group if we wanted to hike down to see the water. It was almost straight down and only my professor, my friend, and myself went, the other girls stayed behind. As we were climbing down I had such an adrenaline rush because it was on the difficult side. It was a lot of fun and the water was beautiful. On our hike back to the cars, there were horses. I love horses, so I ran over and was feeding one of them some grass. The other girls kept asking if the fence was electric and I did not know of course. Well, needless to say, as I was feeding the horse, my are touched the fence and I got shocked. We all laughed and said, "yup, it is electric!!". I love to hike because there are so many levels of difficulty when hiking and every time is different.

Bowling...

Almost the entire class went bowling at Rossi Lanes, a local bowling alley. My friends and I played two games and it was some good competition. I like being competitive academically and as well as athletically. Bowling is an activity that is fun even if the bowler is not the best. I had a lot of fun goofing around and seeing who got the most strikes! This activity is good for all ages. My nephews and my niece love to bowl with me. Although we play with bumpers because my mephew are young, it is still a blast.

Racquetball...

A friend and I play racquetball almost everyday and sometimes more than that! I am enrolled with the racquetball class. During this class, we learn how to hit the ball, the rules of the game, strategy of where o hit the ball, and where to move around the court in order to have the best advantage over the other player(s). Other than class, I like to play a lot. I like this sport because it is very competitive and it allows me to let out aggression. Even though the ball for this sport is very small, looks are definitely deceiving. I cannot account for how many times I have been hit with the ball. I have had imprints of a small circle on my back and some bruising. Other than being hit with the ball, it is one of my favorite activities to participate in. It involves athleticism, good sportsmanship, as well as competitiveness.

Golf...

I think golf would have to be my favorite activity of all times. I have been playing for 13 years and whenever I get a chance I try to get out and play. I love to watch the LPGA as ewll as the PGA on TV. I go to the driving range several times each week and try to play a few rounds as well. I enjoy golf so much because it can be very competitive, yet at the same time relaxing. I play this sport with friends and family. I am actually teaching my niece how to play, and she loves to go to the driving range. Although some people may find golf to be frustrating, I find it to be wonderful. Golf involves a lot of mental concentration, and it is important to keep that in mind.
