a little piece of me
There's something about being stuck out in the wilderness knowing that if you hurt yourself you're more than a 7 mile walk to get help that makes hiking a beautiful adventure...

hiking

The Watkins Glen area is absolutely beautiful in the springtime when all the trees are starting to really green up and the water is still running at a decent rate. I’ve had the opportunity to hike the trails in the park a few times prior to my participation in this class. There are a few different pathways so you can go up one way and come back down the other. When you get to the top you can sit and relax on the picnic benches before your walk back and kids can play on the swings; it’s just a nice place.

When five of us from the class met our teacher in Watkins Glen we were sad to find that the trail that goes in the gorge was still closed due to winter hazards. So our teacher opted to take us on part of the Finger Lakes trail that runs parallel to the gorge. I had never been on this trail before but if I ever have the time I would love to do it again. For anyone that wants to go on a leisurely hike this trail is great, not too strenuous but you can feel a bit of a workout. It would also be a great trail to bring a picnic on because there are some beautiful spots to sit and look at the gorge as well as a few campgrounds along the way.
