"The Day, Water, sun, moon, night- i do not have to purchase these things with money"-plautis
I am taking this class, www.women for my third term class. I was interested in learning to make a website on a woman who has been very influential to the world of sports. This class is more than I expected it would be and has even opened my eyes to the beautiful outdoors. Not only do we learn to create our own websites but were able to go on two field trips.
I have had very little interest in being outdoors unless it is at the beach or playing a sport. So when we went on our first field trip to Tanglewood Nature Center I was a little bit skeptical but still interested in learning about geocaching. Needless to say ,after this day, I was warming up to the outdoors.
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunt game. This game is played using GPS devices. We were sent up into the trails at Tanglewood in search of a little treasure. We were strangers to the trail but the GPS device did provide us with some direction. Although after an hour and a half of hard searching, we did not find the treasure. It was somewhat of a disappointment but overall the activity was very fun. I must say that at the end of the class, I had a better understanding of geocaching, and developed a new image of the outdoors, something I thought would never be possible.
As a class, we also went hiking in Watkins Glen at the Gorge. Because I am from Elmira, I had already been to the Gorge, but I had not been there in a long time. I forgot how beautiful the Gorge was. It was so fun to hike on such a beautiful day and see all of the waterfalls and the trails off the main path.
Needless to say, this class about an influential woman in sport allowed me to come to terms with the outdoors. I have grown to like the outdoors and to go hiking something that I never had an interest in before term three. It allowed me to have a more positive and more meaningful attitude toward the outdoors.
I dedicate this part of my page to Dr. Maluso, thank you for giving me the opportunity to explore and gain a better appreciation for the outdoors.
