Teaching

Mindy Moshier’s mother was a physical education teacher and a coach and her father was a history teacher and a coach as well. With this family background, it is no wonder that Mindy went into teaching and followed her parent’s footsteps into a coaching career. Mindy has coached volleyball as well as teaching a physical education class for the past 21 years.

Her coaching career started at an early age, when she attended Blossburg Elementary School that encouraged its students to participate in athletics. Later she attended North Penn High School and graduated in 1980, eight years after Title IX was in effect which gave her unlimited opportunities to participate in many competitive sports, particularly volleyball and tennis. After graduating from Northern High School she attended Lock Haven University where she got her Bachelors degree in health physical education and recreation. She remembers the hard work she had to perform in order to fulfill the demands of an extraneous career that required physical as well as intellectual work. The principles of discipline, strength and never giving up were installed in her when she endured 7 hours of classes each day in college. "It's eight to three o'clock every day, Monday through Friday, and the demands that you are placed under physically as well as taking your classes" are especially challenging. After graduating from Lock Haven University, Mindy got her master's degree at Wilkes College.

Now Mindy teaches at Mansfeild Junior/Senior High School with about 600 students. She teaches Physical education classes all day long, and then coaches in the afternoon. Mindy works on her programs all year long even though the seasons go only from August to November. It is obvious that Mindy is a great professional and a great teacher because she has lead her students to state championships. With the love and devotion that Mindy has for sports it is clear that she will continue to do this for as long as she can.
