Sport has always made up a large part of my life. From volleyball to basketball
and soccer to hockey, it seemed as though I was always involved in something.
However it was hockey that got me where I am today and helped me met many
of the people that are a huge part of my life.
I started hockey when I was ten years old, and since my hometown was small, I
played with the boys. After just four years of playing I made the Newfoundland
and Labrador U18 team at the age of fourteen. Hockey it seemed was my sport,
it was the sport that I was the most talented at and most interested in.
After that I decided that I wanted to go away to school to pursue my hockey
career, so I went away to a prep school in Ontario, Canada called Appleby
College School. My intentions for going away was to eventually play NCAA
hockey in the US. So after four years on the U18 Newfoundland team and
three years on the Sr. Newfoundland team (playing in Esso Nationals) I
ended up being recruited by many top American schools, such as Yale and
St. Lawrence. But I didn’t want hockey and school work to rule my life,
I wanted to enjoy my university experience and have time for friends but
still receive a good education. Therefore hockey brought me to Elmira College in Elmira, NY where I am set to graduate in 2009.
I just recently finished my Freshman year playing hockey at Elmira College and although it was a building year we still made the NCAA tournament. We never made it as far as teh final four but as a team we are looking at it as a positive impact on the years to come.
