My Recreation Experience

Organized Sports

Throughout the course of my life, I have participated in a whole host of different organized sports activities. The first sport I participated in was gymnastics when I was four.  I really enjoyed this activity, although I can't say I was any good at it.  By the time I was done with the year's lessons I had only mastered a forward roll and still cannot do a cartwheel to this day.  However, this did not stop my interest in sports, as I moved on to other actives not long after.

When I started elementary school, more opportunities to participate in sports became available.  I began to play t-ball when I was in kindergarten.  I played at this level for a couple of years, before going on to play regular baseball for a couple more years.  By the time I was in fourth grade, my mom had started a softball league at my school and I started playing that instead of baseball.  During my sixth grade year, our team was the best in our league.  We didn't actually have championships, but we hailed ourselves the winners, since we had defeated every team in the league.

During elementary school, I also played soccer and basketball.  I started playing soccer first, when I was in second grade.  My best friend played and I thought it sounded fun, so I asked my mom if I could play and she signed me up.  When I first started playing I had no idea what I was doing.  During our first practice, my coach told us to dribble the ball around the field and I was tempted to pick it up and start bouncing it like a basketball. Luckily, I saw the other kids kicking it with their feet and caught on before I embarrassed myself.
