"I have to go through it. I accept that, and i'm not panicked about it because the lord is in control. But it just would be so saddening if i had to go through it and couldn't help people. But then I see i'm helping others in a great way than I ever have. That's the amazing thing, you know?"
In 1987, Kay had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Kay fought and battled this disease for 22 years. Even though she was sick, she still was there to coach her teams to successful seasons. In December 2007, Kay founded the Kay Yow/ WBCA Fund, a fund that raises money for research in the fight against women's cancer. This fund works closely with the V Foundation because of her close friendship with North Carolina State Men's Basketball head coach Jim Valvano.

"I have a big vision. I want people to know that the coaches of women's teams are stepping forward to commit to making a difference. We have coaches who have breast cancer or have been affected by breast cancer, and we will have more in the future. If we push we can make a difference. I want people to hear WBCA and think about helping people."
