Performing Arts: Life in the spotlight
I remember the night my love of performing took flight. I was in sixth grade, and our middle school chorus consisted of three people. I had a solo in “We Three Kings” for our school-wide holiday concert, and upon hearing the applause and people yelling my name, I knew my ultimate passion in life. I have been singing since I can remember, leaving songs from Les Miserables on my grandparents’ answering machine when I was three. Singing in itself releases all the pent-up stress I gather and totally relaxes me. Performing transports me to a whole different level; it’s almost like an out-of-body experience. Hearing that applause at the end of a song gives me such satisfaction; not only am I having the time of my life, but other people are enjoying the experience as well. If ever given the opportunity to sing professionally, I would be the happiest person alive.
I have been in many different performance groups. At Camden Hills Regional High School, I was a member of the first Women’s Choir, as well as the auditioned ensemble, Chamber Singers. I auditioned for and was accepted into the Maine District III Choir, as well as the Maine All State Festival. At Elmira College, I have spent my time singing with the Elmira College Chiclettes, performing multiple solos for the group’s annual A Cappella Weekend music festival.
