Its A Cheerleaders' Nation

Cheerleading - is a sport that uses organized routines made up of elements from dance and gymnastics to cheer on sports teams at games and matches, and/or as a competitive sport.

I became involved in cheerleading because of my mother. She was a cheerleader for many years, and began coaching high school varsity teams when I was just a year old. At the age of seven I became the team’s mascot, and would do everything the “big girls” did. It wasn't’t until my freshman year of high school that I actually became a cheerleader. I tried out and made my high school team. I did not love it at first, because I was a hard-core gymnast, and gymnasts did not jump up and down cheering on the basketball team. At the end of my freshman year, my team and I went to a competition, and that is where I became passionate about cheerleading. I loved being on that mat, and showing people what I could do. In high school I still continued with my gymnastics and dancing, however nothing could compare to the energy of cheerleading, and knew I wanted to compete in college. Today, I am still involved in cheerleading. I just love the rush of being on the mat for two and a half minutes. Cheerleading to me is everything, without it that knows what I would be doing.
