About Me My Family Friends Keala Kennelly Curtis Joseph |
Born: August
13, 1978 Sport: Surfing Stance: Goofy Nickname: DJKK Keala Kennelly has won 12 contests from 1997 to 2003: they include Wahine Women’s in both 1997 twice and 1999, the Black Pearl Women’s Pro in 1998, the e11even US Women’s Open of Surfing in 1999, the Gallaz Women’s Pro in 2000, the Billabong Girls in 2001, in 2001 the Op Pro Boat Trip Challenge, she won the Billabong Pro in 2002 and 2003, in 2003 she won Roxy Pro and Turtle Bay Women’s Pro. Since then she has been finishing in second, fifth, and even ninth in some events. She was born in Hawaii and continues to live there. She has many sponsors including, Billabong, Spy, Converse, Spyder, Urbandecay, Island Style, and Vestal. Her training includes going to the gym, surfing, and partying. Her favorite waves to surf are Teahupoo in Tahiti, and Pipeline in Hawaii. Besides surfing she also likes to DJ, dance, and have fun. One of her greatest achievements was being the first woman to tow into Teahupoo. Towing is where they are pulled by jet skis to surf waves impossible to paddle into. These waves reach over 4 meters high with a deadly reef below the waterline. To make a mistake there could cost you your life. Keala is my favorite female athlete. She has worked hard to win her titles and even harder to try and defend them. I first heard of her in a Surfer Magazine she was in a main article. She was inspiring and that article explained everything about her and the surfing world. She is a minority in the surfing world, being a women but yet she has just as much heart if not more then the male surfers. Her style is crazy and she does things that no woman has even done before. I still have the magazine I first saw her in and to this day it is still important and goes everywhere with me. |
