Team WBL Tour

Deb's first experience as a chaperone occured when she joined Team WBL on a tour during the summer of 2002. For two weeks, Team WBL traveled by bus to five different locations (Cooperstown, Cape Cod, New York City, Rhode Island, and Toronto). At each destination, the team ran instructional clinics for children. They also played in all-star games against the local teams. Most places they played women’s teams, but in Cooperstown they played against a men’s all-star team.

Deb commented how the trips between one destination to another were quite long. She said, “They were long trips. We were on the bus for six or eight hours at a time.” However, she also noted that this allowed everyone time to get to know each other. She said it was also interesting because she was traveling the same way that women baseball players used to. “It was kind of cool to think that it was how the AAGPBL teams used to travel (except we had a nicer bus with a VCR!).”

Deb enjoyed the company she was with during the tour. She said, “There were a lot of people on that tour who are very active in women’s baseball, so that’s why I wanted to be part of it.” She has continued to stay in contact with many of the people she traveled with.
