Everyday Life

Kim’s Life at Brown:

A typical day for Kim at Brown was much like that of any other Division I athlete. A great deal of her time was consumed by athletics while trying to maintain ivy-league expectations. Everyday after classes, Kim would spend 3-4 hours at the rink either practicing on the ice or lifting weights in the gym. After the rink it was dinnertime then she would devote a large portion of her night towards homework. Rehab, video sessions and meetings with her coaches all consumed precious hours during her day as well.

Olympic Training Schedule

Becoming an Olympic athlete meant becoming a professional athlete and Kim’s training schedule immediately became more vigorous. Nearly every hour of Kim’s day was devoted to ice hockey. Kim would wake up in the morning, eat breakfast and then head straight to the rink for about two hours of practice. Next, she would go to the training centre for rehab as well as attend meetings for sports science. Kim often worked with sports physiologists and skating trainers. Following these activities was another two-hour practice. Once done with those things, it was back on the ice for Kim for another two hours before dinner-time. After dinner there was limited time for Kim and her teammates to relax before going to bed to rest their bodies for the next strenuous day.

Kim’s Life Today:

Since Kim has retired from playing professional Ice hockey, she spends less time playing the game. She enjoys traveling, hanging out and keeping in touch with friends, biking, running, road racing, short story writing and blog spots. However, her main focus these days is spent trying to achieve her next goal of being hired as an assistant coach for a Division I College Ice hockey team.
