April was the first female player inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame.

She started playing for University of North Carolina where she was named National Player of the year twice. She also earned All-American first team honors three times. She led her team to three NCAA championships.

She was the captain of the 1991 World Cup U.S. team and was crowded champion. She had thirty-eight career goals. In 1986 and 89 April was named U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year.

She was head coach at Princeton University in 1990. Then She was head coach at University of Virginia from 1996-99. She also was the assistant coach to the U.S. national team since 1995. In 2000 April became the head coach of the national team until 2005. Now she is the head coach of University of California Irvine.
