Barbara Marois

Barbara Marois, nicknamed “Barb,” was born March 1, 1963 in Auburn, Massachusetts.  She attended Auburn High School and was elected into the school’s hall of fame.  Marois then went on to play at the University of New Hampshire.  Here she was named an All American in 1984 and the college’s Athlete of the Year for the 1985-86 season.

Directly after college, she played for Team USA, a team she remained on until 1997.  Marois also participated in the 1986, 1990, and 1994 Hockey World Cup tournaments.  Her team won a bronze medal in the 1994 games.  She also took part in the Pan American Games in 1987, 1991, and 1995.  Marois took home a silver medal from the 1987 games, a bronze medal from the 1991 games, and another silver medal in the 1995 games.  Additionally, she won a bronze medal in 1995 while playing for the Champions Trophy.

Each year from 1991-1994, Marois was named USA Field Hockey’s Athlete of the Year.  In 1996, she was selected to play on the USA Olympic women’s field hockey team.  Her team placed fifth in the Olympic games. Marois helped her team earn this place by scoring a late-in-the-game goal that gave them the win over Korea.

By the time she retired in 1996, Marois had played in 152 international games.  She was elected into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame on June 12, 2004.  Today, she works as a physical education teacher in York, Maine.
