Karen & Sarah Josephson
Female Synchronized Swimmers

Birthdate: January 1, 1964
Hometown: Bristol, Connecticut
Year Inducted: 1997
Position: Synchronized Swimmers

These two twins began swimming together at the age of five. During their subsequent years, their strength as individual swimmers and a pair has only continued to impress those who have watched them perform as they took the art of aquatics to an entirely new level.

The girls have accomplished a significant amount individually: Sarah placed sixth in figures during the 1984 Olympics, won the bronze medal in the 1988 Olympics, and a silver medal in the 1992 Olympic games. Karen placed fourth in the 1988 Olympic games andwon the bronze during the 1992 Olympics.

Together, however, their accomplishments are even more amazing:
1980 Junior National Champions
1980 Joined the U.S. National team
1983 Pan American gold medal
1986 World Champions silver medal
1987 Pan American gold medal
1988 Silver Olympic medal
1991 Broke the world record for the highest overall duet team score
1992 Olympic gold medal, with four perfect technical marks and four perfect artistic marks

The girls retired after the 1992 Olympic games, with sixteen consecutive championships won. They have each begun their own families since retirement.
