Michelle Akers
Female Midfielder

Michelle was a three-time All American. After high school she went to University of Central Florida in Orlando.  There she was a four-time All American and in 1988 she was the first woman to win the Hermann Trophy.

After college she went and played professionally in Sweden. Michelle played for three seasons for Tyresco club.  She was the first American women to play professional soccer.

She has been on the U.S. national team since 1985. In 1990 and 91 she was U.S. Soccer’s Female Athlete of the Year. In 1991 Michelle led the U.S. team to their first World Championship. She won both the Golden Boot Award and the Silver Ball Award. In 1995 she was named to the U.S. Women’s Cup All Tournament team. In 1996 she was the most valuable player at the U.S. Women’s World Cup. She was also a member of the Gold Medal wining U.S. Women’s National Team at the Olympics. In 1999 she won the World Cup. In 2000 she got her second Gold medal in the Olympics.

She retrieved in 2000 after battling countless injuries. She scored over one-hundred international goals in her career. She has written several books and is the founder of Soccer Outreach International program.
