Eligibility Requirements & Nomination Process

Any individual from any level of involvement in women’s basketball may be nominated for induction into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.  They must fit into one of four categories – player, coach, referee, or contributor.

In order to be eligible for nomination, an individual must meet certain requirements.  For instance, players must have retired at least five years prior to their nomination, coaches must have coached women’s basketball for a minimum of twenty years, referees must have officiated women’s basketball for at least ten years, and contributors must have had a significant effect on women's basketball.

The individual making the nomination must also send relevant evidence as to why they feel the person they are nominating deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.  This information is sent to the Basketball Hall of Fame Board of Directors, which votes on whether they want to induct the nominee.

When making their decision, the board considers the individual's “"moral character, integrity, sportsmanship, record of performance, ability, national or international recognition and contributions to the game of women's basketball”
