Eligibility Requirements & Nomination Process

Nominees for the International Swimming Hall of Fame will be considered only after the participant has been retired from the field of swimming for at least four years. When considering a swimmer, his or her international career will be the one of most significance to the review committee.

For a coach to be nominated to the International Swimming Hall of Fame, it is imperativef that this individual have international coaching experience and that he or she must have been involved in that particular profession for a period of at least 25 years.

Selection material that will be considered with the most weight includes: the winning of any Olympic Gold Medals, world records set by the individual, regional championships in which the individual participated and particularly those which he or she won, national championship titles, and any other significant milestone achievements made during the nominee's career.

When inducted, members of the International Swimming Hall of Fame are listed as representatives of the country in which they spent most of their professional career and for whom they won the most titles.

Decisions will be made by the Honoree Selection Committee,a panel of 153 judges. These judges represent a number of worldwide countries, including the United States of America, Nigeria, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, France, and more.
